We envisage something modern, colorful and innovative, along the lines of OHCHR logo for the "speak up and stop discrimination" campaign. The identity should ideally build on this logo. Also see the Fight Racism Campaign. Consistency is desired with a view to aligning the visual identify of OHCHR products related to Gender Equality in OHCHR (including the Strategic Plan identity which the ITC ILO is also working on).
The graphic design will also need to illustrate the nuanced concept of gender equality (which includes equality between women and men, and also equality regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation) and its integration in the context of OHCHR's internal business processes and its work on advancing human rights around the world. One important concept is that human rights are universal and apply to all human beings equally regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. The title of the module will be:
Gender Equality, Human Rights and Me: A Learning Tool for OHCHR Staff
The three sections will be organized as follows:
Rethink Consider the basic concepts of gender equality and why is it important
Relate Learn about the institutional accountability frameworks and your individual role and responsibilities
Realise Try applying the basic steps of gender analysis in a context relevant to your work
Rethink
Relate Same style as above, maybe with men and women making an "=" sign with their arms in different ways, i.e. the UN Action Campaign's crossed arms
Gender facilitators (guides): 1 man, one woman, see as reference the speak up and stop discrimination logo, only the characters should be in work clothes. As per the people represented in the logo, they should be conceptual rather than cartoons.
OHCHR staff:one manager, one program officer, and one general service staff member. They should look like regular UN staff coming from different cultures, in a work setting (in the office and the field). We would like them to be something like the cut out figures below,
since they will be loosely based on real colleagues who will not be identified.
we can purchase their pictures for 50USD per photo.
The following could provide inspiration for the overall visual identity and particulary the section on "rethink."
People from civil society around the world, men and women gender equality advocates from different countries. They will be speaking about the gender equality priorities most important to them, such as combatting sexual violence in armed conflict, securing equal land rights for women, the right to education for girls, lesbian-gay-transexual rights.
